This post is inspired by all the men & women who are hard-working members of society who also happen to pursue their dreams despite their first career. ••• I have had a full time job in healthcare since age 16. I was a cardiac #registerednurse for over 8 years, 5 of which were working full time night shifts while also working a second nursing job per diem at a 2nd hospital. I have worked in an intermediate ICU setting (step-down) as well as a charge for the last several years working on every floor of the hospital. I can help run a code, teach a patient about their medications, & work life sustaining equipment at the bedside. I am not "just a model." ••• I have a passion for #health, #wellness and quality of life. I've used every opportunity to help promote those values to my patients. The more I studied health and wellness, the more I grew to believe that it starts with lifestyle habits such as regular #nutrition and #exercise. I have never seen a natural athlete stuck in terrible health crisis in 8 years. There's a reason for that. To live a fit and active life helps reduces the risk of diseases. ••• One day I myself realized that my life was spiraling out of control. I was overworked, overstressed, lacking sleep, overweight, fatigued and extremely unhappy. I decided to take control of my life and get my priorities straight. I wanted to be healthy, fit, strong, be a confident woman and work to prevent disease versus simply treat with medications after the fact. I wanted to change my life for the better and to help others before they lost control of their health too. ••• I've stayed at my patients' bedside all night to calm their anxieties about dying alone. I've massaged my patients back when meds no longer calmed then down from their chronic illness. I've talked to families when they were struggling over losing their mother or wife. I've helped rehab people who had lost limbs. I have made my patients laugh when they felt scared or embarrassed about their conditions. I cared then & I care now. Aesthetics are great but health & quality of life is everything. ••• Sincerely, #Nurse Lauren
