A red deer stag in a pine forest during a blizzard – This image represented some of the most challenging conditions that I’ve worked in as a photographer. Minutes earlier the scene was completely snow free but a brief highland storm blew through and within minutes the scene was transformed, carpeting everything including my camera and lens in snow. Working under such conditions can be extremely challenging and the swirling snowstorm made it absolutely impossible for me to even entertain the idea of changing my lenses. This actually helped me in the long run as it streamlined my thinking and forced me to work with whatever lens that I had on my camera at the time. Fortunately for me the lens was my always flexible 200-400mm zoom and so it was an ideal opportunity to include some of the stunning forest habitat.
