Photo by Michael George @migeophoto // Two years ago, a golden rosette fell from the ceiling in the Rose Main Reading Room at the New York Public Library. The room was immediately closed for renovations, but is finally reopening this week! I had the opportunity to visit the empty space with Nat Geo writer @neilshea13, along with a group of other writers and photographers. Here are some fast facts: 1) The room spans 297 feet, nearly the length of a football field 2) To ensure the structural integrity of the ceiling, each rosette was tested with a 300-plus-pound weight during reconstruction 3) The library has 3 - 5 million items stored in the archival stacks beneath the reading room 4) There are also two stacks beneath the lawn in Bryant Park. That means when you're sunbathing, you're lying atop priceless artifacts! If you are passing through New York in the coming months, make sure to stop by the newly restored room. // @NYPL #NYPLreadingroom
