No Italian Sale could be complete without an Alberto Burri piece, including this supreme example from one of the artist’s most celebrated series, the ‘Plastiche’. Burri turned to art after WWII, and in the words of legendary curator James Johnson Sweeney: he ‘breathes fresh life into the inanimate materials which he employs, making them live and bleed’.
