"I played a lot of different sports growing up. I was the kid who gave everything a go and never really let anything get in my way. Usually I would compete against able-bodied kids because that was a way of testing myself. Sport was a way of showing how physically capable I was. I think that’s why I’m now so competitive, I always wanted to prove that my disability didn’t matter and that I could do things just as good as everyone else. As I got older I realised that sort of stuff didn’t matter as much to me, I realised I didn’t have to prove myself to anyone. In fact, I felt like I deserved to compete on a level playing field and that’s what drew me to the Paralympics. It provides me a platform to compete at the highest possible level against other girls who are just like me. Other girls who have potentially gone through the same issues and challenges growing up.”
