"I broke my neck playing footy at the age of 19. I collided with a teammate going for the ball and knew something was wrong straight away. I tried to move but I just couldn’t get up. It’s a pretty scary thing, you know, to have movement taken away from you. I played footy my whole life and I’d still be playing if I could but unfortunately things haven’t worked out that way. It’s pretty easy to fall into a hole after something like that happens. I was fit and healthy and to have that ripped from me at such a young age was very tough. I was pretty down for a while until one day I just woke up and was sick of not achieving anything so I decided to look for a new sport. I had done a bit of hunting when I was younger with my old man so I thought shooting could be a good fit and I haven’t looked back since. There are so many competitive shooters around the world that anyone can win a medal on their day so I’m every opportunity to snag one in Rio. Shooting has given me back my drive and competitiveness and that’s something I’m very grateful for.”
