Photo by @bethjwald/@thephotosociety // I am finally getting back on the Instagram horse after several months working a lot off the grid, shooting and not posting! This photo is from recent work in northern Argentina, where I have been documenting the land conservation and re-wilding projects of the Conservation Land Trust Argentina (#CLTA) in the Esteros del #Iber, a vast #wetland in #Corrientes Province. I also photographed the rich culture of the #Correntinos and of the people who live within the Esteros, many of whom work with CLTA. Over the next couple weeks, I will post a series of photos and video clips of the work of CLTA and the vibrant #gaucho heritage of Corrientes. In this photo, Camila Macarena, a young Corrintino volunteer for CLTA who is training to be a park ranger, uses her #horse to get a little more elevation with her antenna – she is tracking a young giant anteater (in Spanish they are called oso hormiguero, or “ant-eating bear”) that was rescued, rehabilitated and recently returned to the #wild – she checks on the anteater several times a week, making sure it is healthy and occasionally giving it supplemental food. The Iberá Project of CLTA is one of the most ambitious species re-introduction initiatives in the world, and the largest in South America – the team is bringing back not only giant anteater but also pampas deer, tapirs, peccaries, green-winged macaws and jaguars to the Iberá ecosystem.
