With deep sorrow, today we bade farewell to one of Singapore’s most illustrious sons.

Mr S R Nathan was a man of great personal integrity, commitment and generosity. He lived life fully, and never gave up despite the challenges he faced. He could always be counted on to do his best for Singapore, even at personal risk and sacrifice.
Mr Nathan played a significant role in our nation-building. He was a President for all Singaporeans, who cared deeply about racial and religious harmony. Even after he retired, he continued to share a lifetime of experience and wisdom with younger Singaporeans.
Mr Nathan had hoped that Singaporeans, especially the young, would draw one key lesson from his life story: “to not give up.” Mr Nathan lived by this precept, and we will remember him for it. Thank you Mr Nathan, for giving the best years of your life and more to Singapore. Rest in peace. – LHL
