2 years ago (1 year in to CF/lifting) - maxing at 290# - i recently hit a new max at 312# - so an increase of 22# - ~11# per year. Seems like super slow and small progress. That is if you ONLY focus on the weight on the bar. For a solid year i chose to step back from pushing the numbers game on my strength lifts and focus on mobility, which was very poor. I got in to yoga, then found my friends at @romwod - learned how to get excited about squatting the same weight but x amount of inches more range of motion. I also cut a full weight class (and then later massed back up), learned how to get excited about keeping my strength numbers while losing weight. Then i have spent another year focusing on mechanics, learning how to use all of muscles in unison, learning to appreciate proper form and technique which is what will keep me in the sport for years to come. I rehabbed several injuries - a full tear of my labrum in my hip, and the constant battle of quad tendonitis. Learned what it takes mentally to re-gain strength that used to be there before injury. When you measure progress by just the weight on the bar you don't have "long term sight" which i talk about a lot. The path to success is not a straight line pointing upward, but moreso a very curvy one with a lot of peaks and troughs with an upward trend. Laying ground work has set me up to handle the volume I currently do which is now turning in to new strength gains after all this time. Don't get frustrated if you aren't constantly hitting new PRs- instead focus in on just getting "better" in whatever way you can, which can be a limitless amount of progress in the day to day. #growth #strengthfromstruggle #girlswholift #squat
