Crystal Smith left balloons outside of the Baton Rouge gas station where 3 police officers were shot yesterday morning. The gunman, Gavin Long, died on a commercial street in a shootout with the police. It was his 29th birthday. He killed 3 officers and wounded 3 others. Of the officers who died, one had just become a father. Another had been a law enforcement officer for less than a year. A third left behind 4 children. All 3 were married. “They are real-life, everyday heroes,” @louisiana_gov John Bel Edwards said. The photographer @edmundfountain, who took this photo, is on #nytassignment in #BatonRouge.
