A house on the banks of the river Dore Envau in the Dordogne region of #France. The American entertainer Josephine Baker had a rich relationship with her adopted country, and it with her. While spending time in #Prigord — an area comparatively light on American tourists — a @nytimestravel writer decided to explore the France that Josephine loved. Although the queen of the Jazz Age was born in St. Louis in 1906, she spent the second half of her life at the Château des Milandes, a breathtaking Renaissance castle overlooking the Dordogne River. Unlike her hectic nights of performing, her days in the Périgord were peaceful. Or as peaceful as anyone’s days can be with 12 small children, multiple monkeys and a pet cheetah.
