Progress comes in baby steps with these "doctors." I want to thank my amazing Feline Research Team for inspiring this positive change in the veterinary practices of the Presidents of the Veterinary Associations in NY.
In a nutshell both the President’s practices of the NYSVMS and the LIVMA don't suggest Soft Paws when cat owners call to get their cats declawed nor did they have a service to apply soft paws to kitty claws. When my Research Team called the practices initially for a this study, they both said they don’t do that and don’t carry Soft Paws. My Team kept calling and finally they offered the service to apply them. One will do it for $1.50 per toe and the other is quite pricey at $4 per toe. Both practices say you need to bring in your own Soft Paws.
Hopefully this will help save cats from being declawed and they will suggest Soft Paws when clients call to make an appointment to get their kitties toes and claws amputated.
Applying Soft Paws isn't going to pay for their vacations or car payments, (although $4 per toe is good $) but it is a service that follows the oath they took to use their "skills for the benefit of society through the protection of animal health and welfare, the prevention and relief of animal suffering.”
