Today is Caturday and it's a purrfect day to honor a woman who I consider a hero. Unfortunately she is no longer with us. If you don't know her story, please read it. She could be any of our family members and no one deserves what has happened to her. I'm the ONLY one trying to help her and I know she's turning over in her grave. She had a large bequest of $125,000 and wanted it to go to, (her exact words) "An organization to be used to publicize and educate the public about the cruel effect of de-clawing cats and to support legislation forbidding it.”
So...Cornell made up a nicely worded proposal as to why THEY should get this money, Mrs Hogan's lawyer and the courts believed them, and the money went to Cornell. After months of investigating. Cornell made 6 short commonsense videos about declawing that went out to around 800 people and cost around $200 to make, didn't support the recent declawing bill in NY that would have banned declawing, they declaw cats at their Companion Animal Hospital, and won't show anyone what else they did with the $125,000 except the estate. Cornell knows the estate is closed and Mrs Hogan has no family.
There were two other organization in the running for the bequest (one was the Paw Project) and that money should have been used to help repair the paws of so many kitties, for lobbying for our NY bill, and for helping to end declawing in the way that Rhoda Hogan wanted. :( I wish I was going to Catcon this weekend since Cornell Feline Health Center has a booth there and I would have respectfully and nicely asked their director Mr Bruce Kornreich, face to face for Mrs Hogan, as to what they did with her bequest. ‪The full story about Rhoda Hogan is on the link on my profile.
