Magdalena Mikla, 27, with her boyfriend, Bartosz Siegmiler, 33, in their London bedroom. Magdalena is a domestic helper, and Bartosz works in construction. In 2004, when Poland joined the #EuropeanUnion, a large number of young Polish workers like this couple began moving to Britain. Many work in construction, catering and health care, and they tend to demand lower salaries than natives, which has stirred resentment. As Britons vote on whether to remain in the European Union or to leave, workers like Magdalena and Bartosz worry about whether they will be able to remain in the country. @adamfergusonphoto photographed them for a series exploring the nation contemplating a #Brexit, or British exit. We’ll share more of his photos later today.
