There are 9,485 benches in @centralparknyc. New Yorkers and visitors use them to rest. They read books. They sip coffee, wait for friends. On a sluggish day when you have nothing to do, a #CentralPark bench is a delicious place to accomplish absolutely nothing. But about half of the benches in the park are more than simply places to sit. As part of a program that began in 1986 as a way to help finance the maintenance of the benches and their surrounding areas, 4,223 benches are adopted. It’s not cheap: $10,000 for a plaque with a maximum of 4 lines, each with 30 characters. But it’s there forever. In @centralparknyc, you aren’t just sitting on wood; you’re sitting on memories.
