Painted in Nazi-occupied Paris in 1943, Jean Dubuffet's "Personnage au Bicorne" pays tribute to Napoléon Bonaparte, depicting his instantly recognisably bicorn hat. Inspired by Outsider Art, Dubuffet's art was a homage to the every man: "It is the man in the street that I'm after... he is the one I want to please and enchant by means of my work."
