Members of the Airboat Association of Florida made their way back to the clubhouse after watching the #sunset from their airboats in #Everglades National Park (@evergladesnps). There’s something special about @evergladesnps. Folded inside the United States’s largest subtropical wilderness, it’s a flat 1.5 million acres of marshland, hardwood hammocks, tangled mangroves and cypress domes on the tip of Florida. But beginning this year, federal park officials plan to restrict airboat use in the park — an effort to help protect the saw grass prairies and keep from disturbing wildlife with the boats’ ear-piercing noise. For devotees of the park, a unique but dwindling culture known as Gladesmen, the law is the end of an era. This #nytweekender, we’ve been sharing scenes from the #Everglades by @scottymacphoto.
