Basketball has changed for the better, John Kundla told @nytimessports. Defensive intensity has improved, and the 3-point shot excites him. The 99-year-old is somewhat of a forgotten legend of #basketball. In the 1940s and 1950s — before the shot clock was introduced and when players still shot free throws underhand — Kundla was head coach of the Minneapolis @Los Angeles Lakers’ championship teams, professional basketball’s first modern dynasty. Today, he’s the oldest living Hall of Famer in any of the 4 major American team sports and one of 3 @NBA coaches to have won 3 or more consecutive titles. @timgruber photographed Kundla, who turns 100 next month, at home in an assisted living facility in Minneapolis, where he sometimes positions his wheelchair a few inches from a small analog television and watches basketball, marveling at the size and speed of modern players. “It’s unbelievable how big they’ve grown,” Kundla told @nytimessports. “But there’s still finesse in there — the way they handle that ball, pass it around.” Visit the link in our profile to read more about Kundla’s coaching career. #?
