Photo by Michael George @migeophoto // Greenville, South Carolina has many nicknames: "The Chicago of the South," "G-Vegas," "Home of the Swamp Rabbit Trail." Many people's eyes lit up when I mentioned it was a stop on my tour of the state. In 2003 they tore down a 4-lane highway that went through the middle of town and overshadowed a beautiful waterfall. They replaced it with a breathtaking pedestrian bridge, suspended above the falls, in what is now a massive public park. When I arrived downtown there were many diverse families and couples giving the evening a vibrant energy. I love the south because people dress in bright colors and men will wear a seersucker suit paired with a hat that creates a living Mary Poppins fantasy. Southern hospitality is everywhere. In New York I am always reminded what a skewed perspective and sometimes prejudiced view people have of where I am from. "Isn't it backwards down there?" The answer is no. Like anywhere else, there are good people and bad people.
