Right before our climb yesterday, I got the call that my YeaYea had passed. I kicked myself for not staying one more day in New England. I cried; I knew it was coming, but the finality of his death hit home. @james_lucas asked if I still wanted to continue. My immediate answer was yes. I had already said goodbye to his physical self... Now was the time to honor his soul.
It was a beautiful day, and I took extra effort to notice the details. I wanted to cry at times but I made a point to smile. I like to believe that when we die, we become part of everything in this world... Back to where we came from. And so I imagined YeaYea, finally free from pain; rejoicing in the sun, chirping with the birds, and riding the canyon breeze.
We topped out the Naked Edge before sunset, during the golden hour. I felt more at peace... I knew my YeaYea had found it too.
