?It's been an emotional past few days for me. I flew home to be with family and my YeaYea (Chinese for grandpa) who has rapidly declined from cancer even during the short time I've visited. I am extremely fortunate to have not dealt with much death in my life, so witnessing the effects of this sickness has been heart-wrenching and humbling all at once. Although he has not passed yet, we know the time is close at hand.
I am posting this because, while the experience has not been a positive one, it has brought me closer to my YeaYea and my family than I have felt in a long time. I strive for my social media to reflect my current activities and thoughts... I live and breathe climbing but 'real life' stuff happens too. The good and the bad. Therefore, I am using this opportunity to suggest a simple phone call ☎️ to any loved one that maybe hasn't heard from you in awhile. Connection is so important, and you never know who might be missing you.
These peonies grow in my YeaYea's garden, in full bloom the night he was taken to hospice. I take comfort in their image... and hope that he finds comfort as well soon. Love you YeaYea ❤️
