In temperatures about minus 40 degrees (either F or C - the only temperature they are equal) renowned explorer & mountaineer Reinhold Messner & his brother Hubert test sleds between pressure ridges of crushed sea ice before attempting to cross the frozen #ArcticOcean from Russia's polar archipeligo Severnaya Zemlya to #Canada, via the North Pole. In the background mist rises from open water leads where frigid water can be as deep as two miles. Just two days later they had to be rescued after a pressure ridge suddenly formed and buried their tent in the middle of the night. Later Messner called this the most dangerous place he had ever been - even after being the first person to climb every 8,000 meter peaks on earth... #Russia. #adventure #northpole #dogsled #sunset
