Photo by @migeophoto // I have always found that travel makes the world feel smaller. You look on a map and suddenly understand the places that used to feel so far away. I now realize that travel does the same to large issues. Climate change is a big problem. Potentially the largest problem humanity has ever tried to solve together. Because of this scale the issues can feel impossible to face, hard to understand, and even lead to denial. I am from Florida where my friends who are looking to buy houses are being warned that certain properties will be underwater by the time their kids are grown. Over the past few days I have seen waterfalls, rivers, and endless small streams falling from the glaciers in Torres Del Paine National Park where normally, at this time, the season is turning toward winter. Hiking the French Valley used to have a hard closure of March 15 because of cold and dangerous weather. We hiked part of the way in t-shirts. During our time in Chile, travel has helped me see the complete picture. The cause and effect. The melting ice and the rising tides.
