Photo by @Gerd Ludwig. The Imperial Valley, often referred to as California's Salad Bowl, hosts a half million-acre, billion-dollar farm economy that soaks up massive amounts of water. Controlled irrigation is only one example of how the area depends on water for its economic survival. Geothermal plants, shown here bordering the growing fields, use a network of deep wells drilled in the geothermal field to transfer water heated by the earth's mantle to power electrical generators. The electricity is then sold to the local power utility and put on the grid.
Due to last-minute cancelations, two spots have opened up in my workshop, “The Art of Storytelling - The Salton Sea.” Come explore the Imperial Valley and area surrounding the Salton Sea with me. Information & sign up here: http://www.gerdludwig.com/?p=4298
