Lapland Shaman Jari Rossi illuminated in the sunset of a brief winter day above the arctic circle.
Jari has spent his life in this landscape. Hunting, fishing, understanding the extreme north. But the day we met it was 35° below zero and that was cold even for Jari. Before we walked out onto the lake to pull in the gill nets he had placed under the ice he warned me that in weather this cold we could not spend much time out there, it was too cold even for him. But the cold did not stop him from chopping a hole in the ice and reaching in with his bare hands to pull out 3 lake trout. Once out of the water the fish froze solid in minutes.
