In honor of #blackhistorymonth, a portrait of Joseph McNeil, who I first learned about in a history book as one of "The Greensboro Four”. On February 1, 1960, he and three college friends took a seat at the F.W. Woolworth "whites only” lunch counter and ordered coffee. They were refused service, but stayed anyway, returning the next day with 21 more. It was the spark that lead to a nationwide sit-in movement.
In addition to being a luminary for #civilrights, he is a genuinely nice person and a pleasure to photograph.
