From an elevated platform at 100th Street and Park Avenue, the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ photographer Don Hogan Charles captured this view of a new public housing development, on the left, juxtaposed with older buildings in #Harlem, on the right. A train bound for New Haven, Connecticut, appears in the center of the photograph. In 1966, Don — the first black photographer hired by @ニューヨーク・タイムズ — was assigned to spend a weekend documenting #Harlem, where he lived and still lives today. The images Don made some 50 years ago revealed a Harlem much different than the one portrayed in the article with which they were featured. This #nytweekender, we shared a wider selection of Don’s photos from Harlem than the 4 that were published in 1966.
