It was 1949, the year Jackie Robinson would receive the National League’s Most Valuable Player Award, just 31 months after becoming the first black player in the @MLB. In February, before the season started, the #baseball player spoke to the Sociology Society at @ccnycitycollege in New York. This photo, which came from the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ archives, was unpublished until today. Now, we’re looking for help telling its story. The original caption offers only a hint, saying that Jackie was speaking about “his work with Harlem boys’ groups.” Do you recognize someone in this photo? Let us know in the comments.
This #blackhistorymonth, we’ll be sharing unpublished photos from the @ニューヨーク・タイムズ’s archives that reveal major moments in black history. #UnpublishedBlackHistory
