'Buddhist, Christian and Muslim men play in a family owned pool hall in downtown Yangon. Myanmar is going through turbulent times with violence spreading between different religious groups throughout various regions of the country. For now, Yangon-its former capital- still has a majority of acceptance of people from all beliefs. Wether it be Hindu, Christian, Buddhist or Muslim, this pool-hall on the side of a small shack depicts the sense of diverse community in the streets of Yangon and its tolerance for one another. The way the Burmese play this version of pool which they call 'Pe Chaé', is quite different to the west. The game here is a combination of playing cards with American pool, where each player has to put in the balls according to the numbers on their deck of cards. Pe Chaé plays an important role in social interactions between Burmese men, and although most games are played for money, the atmosphere here is of friendship and respect.''
