This offensive German tunnel system deep underground is unchanged from a century ago at the end of WWI. This tunnel was used to place massive quantities of high explosives under the French front line and to annihilate it by complete surprise, killing every living thing in the vicinity of the explosion.

The explosion would come from below and with no warning. The mine war during WWI was truly a war of terror. One moment everything was calm. The next moment was hell on earth.
