Your best days are never behind you. When my son Ade' was diagnosed with a rare chronic kidney disease called FSGS 18 months ago we were overwhelmed with sadness and fear that our lives may never be filled with the joy we had experienced up until the moment his biopsy came back showing us he'd already lost 50% of his kidney function during a six month timespan. But through loving each other, that sadness turned to resolve that we would do whatever it took to fight the disease and the fear turned to curiosity about what the methods we could use and appreciation for every moment we shared. This week the two of us are in Bali together getting lost on jungle back roads on scooters in the rain, with no watch and no map. Neither of us would have thought that this is where we'd be today, but using food as medicine and keeping a positive attitude Ade' has kept his kidneys in as good a shape as they possibly can be in and he's grown to appreciate every day! I believe that whatever is behind you is never the best your life will be, there is always more to discover about yourself and the world and always deeper purpose and gratitude with which to define it. I believe that as we enjoy the holidays and enter 2016, it's possible that we can all look ahead with optimism that life for ourselves, our families, our communities and our planet will be better than it ever has been and that the work required to achieve health, peace and wholeness for ourselves and all, will remain on our lips, in our hearts and in the deeds of our hands. Your best is never behind you... go find it!
