We got to this area of the Park traveling on the Sekonyer River on a klotok - a two story boat that looks like it is straight out of an old movie. For the first two years of this young orangutan's life, it will be completely dependent on its mother. Even after it begins to explore, it will stay with its mother for 6 years or so before going off on its own. Tanjung National Park, like much of Borneo, was threatened by fire this year and is also under pressure from palm plantations that continue to expand all around it. Watching these amazing creatures in their natural environment makes you understand the importance of protecting them and their habitat. @natgeocreative
