Oleg walked through wreckage in Debaltseve, in eastern Ukraine. At 11, Oleg is living in the ruins of his former life. The rural village that he used to call home was largely destroyed in fighting last winter between the pro-Western government in Kiev and Russian-backed rebels. As conflict in Ukraine settles into a stalemate, roughly 3.2 million people, including Oleg and his family, now live amid destruction or in dire need of humanitarian aid. Oleg’s family is staying in the portion of the house that is still standing while his parents work to repair their home.
