The storm raged for 4 days straight. We huddled, practically on top of each other, in our hanging camp. A portaledge is essentially a glorified cot hanging off of adjustable straps and attached to the wall with a tent fly secured over it. We had a 2 person ledge for the three of us and all of our alpine gear. It was a tight fit. We had found a safe spot for the camp but the frequent avalanches roaring by the camp were a constant reminder of our situation.  The winds battered the ledge and at times, lift the entire ledge up with the three of us inside of it, and drop us recklessly back down onto our anchor point, rattling everything inside the ledge, including us. Conrad would chuckle and say to us, “well...you’re earning your portaledge uplift merit badges.” If you’re wondering what it looks like after 4 days in a storm stuck inside a portaledge on an alpine big wall, here you go…. @コンラッド・アンカー and @renan_ozturk run out of things to talk about.
