In Azerbaijan, while working on a long term assignment on the Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities who live peacefully together.This story sheds light on the incredible assimilation of diverse religious groups all driven by the desire to share in a mutual respect that is not present in other countries.

A woman from the Orthodox Christian community lights candles at the Easter Vigil. The Orthodox Church holds an Easter Vigil at sundown where a Paschal candle is illuminated by a sacred flame. The candle is passed around so that all the participants can light the candles they are holding. The growing light symbolizes the light of Christ coming into the world. This Russian Orthodox Church was closed down during Soviet times and used as a warehouse and gym. During Black January in 1990, it was severely damaged by Soviet missiles. In 2000, the church was fully restored with financial aid from the Azerbaijani entrepreneur, Aydin Gurbanov, a Muslim. The Church became a Cathedral a year later.
