"In December, 1967 — shortly after @Rolling Stone started publishing — #LittleRichard was in San Francisco to play a series of concerts. Appearing in action on TV is always considered great promotion for an upcoming gig. Here he was performing in the CBS affiliate KPIX studios on Van Ness Avenue. It’s a bit disconcerting, somewhat unnatural, really, to photograph a band live in a TV studio. However, the lighting is always bright, steady and fabulous, and access is virtually unlimited, as long as you don’t put yourself in the sightline of one of the massive cameras. Little Richard is one expressive performer, my kind of subject. For a photographer, it’s a lot easier to photograph a musician — any performer, for that matter — who gives you something in his/her face and body movement that, in and of itself, is exciting, and therefore as photogenic as Little Richard always is."
