Gloria and four other women are the managers of this local bank formed several years ago. Though started and trained by a Peace Corps worker, Ripple's partner, Esperanca, formed the heart and core of the effort. There are 21 women who save in this small, rural institution.
The bank makes loans available to local residents and the interest gained is divided at year's end. These women are working to balance the books and determine the profit share for all the members. They work all morning until every cent is accounted for with a worksheet and calculator.
