Everyone feasts communally at a baby-naming ceremony in Benin, where women are overwhelmed with joy by their new "fat babies." The Kalalé District of Benin is an extremely dry and poor region of the country where no inhabitants have access to an electric grid. With such a long dry season, women used to watch their children go hungry for months. Since the arrival of The Solar Electric Fund (SELF), however, women can move water from wells to gardens, using solar power and drip irrigation to create gardens year round, giving the women at this ceremony something to smile about.
