Why did you choose to join Instagram? Answer: Instagram is a great way of showcasing a destination – they say a picture is worth a thousand words! Having watched what was happening in the space and that Instagram wasn’t going away, we felt the time was right to open an account. We were impressed with Instagram’s fast moving success with user numbers and saw the potential to engage directly with consumers. We also wanted to capitalise on our first-ever global blogger trip that was happening in March 2014. Many of the bloggers were on Instagram, so we wanted to make sure that we were engaging with them. ________________________________________Q: How relevant is Instagram for a Tourism Organization like yours? A: As I mentioned, it’s a great way of showcasing a destination. The quality of photos that we are share from the UK Instagram community, as well as from people visiting, are amazing. Each day, curating photos to post on our account is important, it enables us to showcase the length and breadth of Britain, additionally the calibre of photos that users are posting with our hashtag is outstanding. Imagery works for inspiring people to destinations and it’s a great way for us to showcase the beauty of Britain and to show that Britain, isn’t just about London, there are so many beautiful places to visit in the countryside and our other major cities.
