"Some musicians play the blues. Some musicians feel the blues. Some musicians express the blues. B.B. King does all of that and more. Look at this photo I took at the Fillmore West in 1968, concentrate on his face: you hardly have to hear the words to know that B.B. is sharing 'his' blues with you, not simply a song but a tale of a life not always easily lived. Blues music in America has been around for decades; B.B. himself was born in 1925, on a Mississippi cotton plantation, the son of sharecroppers. King was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1980, and into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. All of us who have heard him, recorded or alive, understand why he deserves to be in both."
