Photo by Jeff Gusky @hiddenwwi | Carved by a French WWI soldier, this underground city was close to the front line trenches. The nail in the head may have served a practical purpose. Rats could be a problem in the caves. Soldiers hung parcels of food on nails to keep them off the ground and out of the reach of rats.

There are many beautiful carvings in this underground city. Near its entrance is a map of the city carved in stone.
