Every time #drought strikes California, people can’t help but notice the large reservoir of untapped water lapping at its shores. Now, for the first time, a major #California metropolis is on the verge of turning the Pacific #Ocean into a source of drinking water. In November, a $1 billion ocean desalination plant — the largest in the Western Hemisphere — will begin supplying San Diego County with about 50 million gallons of drinking water a day. But environmentalists say that the intake of seawater and the disposal of salt into the ocean can harm sea life. Damon Winter took #aerial photographs along the coast in San Diego County on Friday.
