Earth

I escaped from the hustle and bustle of the city along paved roads and country paths. I walked for miles, stopping here and there at the foot of a village memorial or the gates of a small town with its iron sculpture from the Soviet era - a tribute to workers. I walked along the cobblestones of the single road through a village. I forgot about the frenzy of the modern world, and walked deep into the fields. I saw isolated houses in the middle of broad green fields speckled with colored flowers, and acres of plowed land. I met women and men who live by the ancient rhythm of day and night. I was overwhelmed by the noisy silence of nature. And from the top of a mountain, I beheld the vastness of the world around me. In the distance, a single man on horseback was riding deep into the tall singing grass. I looked at myself in the mirror he held out to me. I bent down to the ground, and slowly took a handful of earth and inhaled its odor.
