#5 Shiant Isle Excursion -
I’ll not pretend that getting to the Shiant Isles is easy; you’ll be lucky to find any of the excursion boats that occasionally go there. But if you are among the lucky few who ever get to set foot there, and if it is that time of year when seabirds flock (in their thousands and thousands) to nest in these tiny isles off the east coast of Lewis, then it will be luck indeed. You should not approach Puffins closely, but if you sit down on a rock and Puffins come to land five feet away from you, what are you to do? Only a fool would shoo away a Puffin. They will inspect you, of course, cocking their heads like avian clowns encountering a sadly earthbound escapee from the modern world (which you are.) There you will sit, entertaining each other, until a breeze ripples the sea and one of you flies away. I have only ever been on the Shiant Isles for one and a half hours. It was worth it. #islandobsession #scotland
