An early morning Hot Air Balloon ride reveals incredible landscapes, like these mysterious Fairy Circles, in southern Namibia. Situated in the heart of the Namib Naukluft Park, #Sossusvlei, one of the most fascinating landscapes in Namibia, is a photographer’s dream. Gigantic orange dunes, dramatic shadows, undulating plains and rocky mountains create a magical kaleidoscope of colors. These Fairy Circles are circular patches of land, completely free of plants, encircled by a ring of grass that often grows much higher than the other grass in the area. The origin and history of fairy circles have long been a puzzle and their investigation has proved challenging. Over the decades, a number of theories, from alien invasion to poisonous gasses, have been put forth to explain the phenomenon. Last year, a published study made headlines by claiming sand termites were the culprit. None of these, however, have been fully proven. What's your theory? Photo by @magnumji
