Ice climbing is conditions dependent. ❄️ Some years are huge, some years are thin.
No one season is like the previous and no ice climb forms exactly the same. South West Montana experienced a wet summer and fall, yet the warm fall kept the water liquid.
For the Hyalite tribe the barometer is Winter Dance, the one climb visible from town. Last year it was climbed on the 8th of November. This year it didn't do much of anything till the second chinook (warm spell) warmed things up. We are now in the third warm spell, which could be good for this ephemeral drip of ice.
