While on assignment in northern Mozambique for @ナショナルジオグラフィック magazine I came across a very unique fishing technique. Free diving fishermen on Vamizi Island use a dead octopus tied to a stick to frighten lobsters out of their hiding holes. Octopus are a major predator and spiny lobsters will readily flee into open water (and the fisherman's net). This technique however has fallen out of favor as lobster stocks are being depleted and catches decline.
