Augustus Modi was shot through stomach during a raid on his refugee camp by the Lord’s Resistance Army. The LRA cut a bloody decade wide swath through Northern Uganda. It was part of a long and horrific proxy war between Uganda and Sudan. Uganda supported the SPLA and in return the Sudanese government supported the LRA. Even after the Lord's Resistance Army had outlived its usefulness to the Sudanese they continued to terrorize central Africa for years. It took me 4 years to wrap my head around the complexity of the Uganda - Sudan border. It was that complexity that kept me coming back year after year.
