The winner of the November 2014 Fan Photo Contest is Jason Speth @jasonspethphoto. Here is what our judge Stephen Alvarez @salvarezphoto had to say about the photo: "I chose this image as the winner because it works on many levels. The air of adventure, mystery and exploration is palpable. The successive layers of the cave lead me from the central figure back into the frame and I just love the quality of the light. The hanging mist leaves a softness that heightens the timelessness of the image. It brings Conan Doyle’s Lost World to mind. To me, a good image always leave me with questions. You don’t have to answer the who what where when and why explicitly in the frame you can leave the viewer to guess.
Beyond the overall mood of the picture the photographer has used the square frame extremely well. Many of this months entry seemed to be rectangular images that were cropped square and they left me wondering –and not in a good way- what elements were just outside the frame. This image incorporates the square into the compositional form very effectively. Good Job.
