In September 2014 @iloweanker began his studies at Western Washington University, which left @jenniloweanker and me as "empty nesters". In our 13 years of marriage we had yet to take a vacation as a couple - "just the two of us". We would embark on mini expeditions (family vacations) replete with tents, mittens and camp stoves. We enjoyed the time with the boys, yet the character building aspect kind of overrode pure relaxation. With @maxwellsilver a fully fledged adult and Sam a junior at the Montana State University film program, Jenni suggested a trip to Hawaii, a place neither of us had visited. Kaua'i, the garden island, was calling. We visited state & county beaches, camped on the Na Pali coast, snorkeled with turtles, hiked to waterfalls in Waimea canyon and lounged in the sun, reading books. The comfort of swimming in the warm ocean is a great way to allow the frenetic pace of life dissolve. In this snap shot, my sweet wife is dwarfed by a gigantic heart shaped leaf.
